How To Cure Dry Lips

Winter months are in the offing and with the advent of these months not only our facial skin but also our lips take quite a beating. Most of us tend to concentrate more on the face care while forgetting about the lips.

Dry and chapped lips is not only embarrassing but can also be painful especially when it is cracked and bleeding. Moreover every time you apply lipstick on dry, flaky lips it tends to bleed or settle into fine lines. To prevent this problem and to get smooth, supple lips you need to exfoliate and moisturize your lips regularly.

To cure dry lips and prevent flaking you will need a good lips scrub and moisturize your lips. Here are some tips that you can use to get soft, smooth lips.

Chapped Dry Treatment And Cure

Using Homemade Lip Scrubs

The lip scrubs available in the market maybe effective but are often exorbitantly priced. Rather than burning a hole in your pocket try using a homemade lip scrub. Not only are these scrubs easy to make but are quite effective as well.

Honey is an excellent ingredient for a lip scrub as it has an ability to attract and retain moisture with ease. In a glass bowl, heat some honey and then add a bit of olive oil and a teaspoon of baking soda till it forms a thick paste. Apply the natural honey scrub on the lips, leave it on for some time and then wipe off the mixture with a wet cloth. Follow up by moisturizing your lips with petroleum jelly or olive oil. If you have flaky lips then use an old toothbrush to gentle slough off the flakes after applying the scrub.

Sugar is an excellent exfoliater for your lips. Mix brown or white sugar with some olive oil. Apply it on the lips and then using a soft bristled toothbrush, gently exfoliate your lips for around ten minutes or so. Was off with lukewarm water and apply a lip balm. You can also mix sugar with petroleum jelly or honey and peppermint oil for the best results.

Moisturize your Lips

To cure chapped lips you will need to moisturize your lips regularly. Apply petroleum jelly and honey on your lips and then after two minutes use a warm washcloth to scrub off the flaky skin on the lips. Apply coconut oil or aloe vera several times a day to cure the dry skin on your lips. Alternately you can also use castor oil or make a paste of glycerin and honey to cure chapped lips easily. Salt water can be an excellent cure for chapped lips. Soak a washcloth in salt water and place it on chapped lips every night for around five to ten minutes.

Dehydration is one of the major causes of chapped lips. Drink eight to ten glasses of water everyday to prevent dehydration and get smooth supple lips. In addition to this protect your lips by limiting the sun exposure and use good quality lip products only.
